About
PHOTOS BY JOSH COEN
Josh Coen (they/them) is a queer gender-nonconforming photographer, poet, educator, and activist raised in southern Louisiana (Chitimacha land), currently residing in Portland, Oregon. They have been working in arts education, queer activism, and social organizing since earning their BFA in Fine Art Photography from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Coen's body of work thrives within the complexities of queer resistance and existence, and how that is manifested in modern physical and digital spaces. Concepts like inverting masculinity, trans social equilibrium, holding space for queer disabled voices, queering physical environments, and critiquing the supremacy of male social structures are central to their photographic approach. They are committed to creating work that pushes queer discourse to include all voices, especially those in the margins.
